SAMISH INDIAN NATION
Tribal Communications & PR Support for the Samish Indian Nation Housing Development
For nearly 10 years, Fearey has served as agency of record for the Samish Indian Nation, supporting strategic communications, social media and media relations. In 2023 and 2024, Fearey partnered with Samish to amplify two milestone events for its historic housing development, Xwch’ángteng, the first new village built on ancestral land in more than 125 years.
Fearey led media relations outreach for both the groundbreaking and grand opening ceremonies, managing press engagement, stakeholder invitations, onsite media coordination and professional photography. The strategy focused on elevating the project’s cultural significance, community impact and role in addressing affordable housing needs for tribal citizens.
Results
Both events generated strong, positive media coverage that highlighted the Nation’s return to ancestral land and its investment in future generations. Coverage reinforced key messages around tribal sovereignty, cultural restoration, and housing equity.
“To really bring people home, this is our first step,” said Samish Chairman Tom Wooten. “This is a blueprint for the future of the tribe.”
• More than 25 media stories on the groundbreaking and ribbon cutting
• Local media attendance for onsite interviews
The success of these events strengthened public awareness of the Samish Indian Nation’s long-term vision and deepened engagement with community stakeholders and regional leaders.
