I was researching internship positions in a café in Rome during my study abroad trip when two words caught my eye: be fearless. Nearly four months later, I now find myself in Seattle looking at the very same words painted on a wall next to me at The Fearey Group.
Since I’ll be around for the next few months, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Olivia Fuller and I am a current senior studying journalism at the University of Washington with three minors in international studies, human rights and political science. As a Colorado native and resident of Seattle, my survival depends on outdoor adventures, music shows and coffee. I am constantly posting about all three on my Instagram and Twitter.
I love writing and have been fortunate to build my skills while reporting for local Seattle publications including Seattle Globalist, International Examiner and My Edmonds News. More recently, I also have been creating visual and audio stories while producing for The Daily UW and UWTV.
As someone who enjoys creating content for an audience, the public relations field has always been of interest to me. I decided to explore the field as a career option, however, because of its ability to harness the powers of social media, online media and traditional media to communicate the most positive or unique aspect of every subject.
In my brief experience as a journalist, I found that I gravitated toward stories that focused on people and their accomplishments, from high school robotics teams to new community bakeries. I strive to help people tell their story. I am excited to get to work here as a production assistant to do just that.
Over the next few months, I hope to understand each of the roles involved in maintaining accounts and curating projects for clients from start to finish. In interacting with public relations professionals here, the media and clients, I hope to build effective communication skills to tell a clear message in a way that intrigues people to want to know more.
Stay tuned for more with In the Office with Olivia.
