Media Monday, Ellen Allen, Love and Lavender

Each Monday, we’re giving readers a chance to get to know the media a little better.

With a little flair.

Our goal is to give readers some insight into the work and work style of area journalists, and get to know a little bit about the person behind the byline. Start your week off with an online networking opportunity through our Media Monday blog post.

This Week: Ellen Allen, Love and Lavender

ImageEllen Allen is the founder of Love and Lavender, a sought out resource for wedding inspiration world wide. Her work has been featured in multiple wedding publications, on the web and in print. When she isn’t blogging about weddings, Ellen enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two children.

Q: What’s your favorite kind of story?

A: A love story of course! But in all seriousness I love stories about real people doing amazing things.

Q: If you could have someone else’s job, what would it be?

A: Is it wrong if I wouldn’t want a different job? I love blogging and working from home allows me to be with my kids which is the best job of all!

Q: Finish this sentence: “A good PR person is …”

A: Polite and easy to work with.

Q: What skills do new journalists need?

A: Two things. First is Social Media, it’s what makes you or breaks you in the blogging world. Second, make the audience fall in love with you and want to follow your every move.

Q: What hidden talent or skill do you have that viewers/readers don’t know about you?

A: I’m the best list maker ever. My friends ask me to make lists for them, not kidding. I love planning things and lists go hand in hand with that.

The PR Pro Takeaway: Although Allen’s job would seem to be very specific, the same journalism rules apply: stories about people, as stated in her first answer. Find Allen on her website, on Pinterest and on Twitter.
